On May 1, the 2026 2nd "Hope Cup" Children's Go Tournament, themed "Joy in the Game of Go", was successfully held at Xinjin Hope Outlets in Chengdu. The event was guided by the Sichuan Go Association and the Sichuan Women and Children's Development Promotion Association.

Nearly 300 young players from all over the province registered for the competition, which was divided into six groups and conducted under a seven-round Swiss system. After intense contests, Deng Yuxiaoshu, Zhang Haoqian, Li Yixuan, Yan Qinwen, Liu Zeqian, and Gao Junyi won the championships in the 5-kyu, 10-kyu, 15-kyu, 20-kyu, 25-kyu, and unranked groups respectively.

As a quintessence of Chinese culture, Go plays a remarkable role in developing children's intelligence, enhancing logical thinking, cultivating concentration and patience, and stimulating creativity and innovation. It has won growing recognition from parents and popularity among children in recent years. "It is meaningful to take children to a Go tournament during the holiday. Such events help build their resilience to pressure and setbacks while improving logical reasoning. Although it rained this morning, the organizers made thoughtful arrangements and provided excellent on-site services," said parents, who expressed high satisfaction and gratitude for the event organization.

During the tournament, the organizer leveraged the May Day holiday to create integrated consumption scenarios of sightseeing, shopping and leisure, encouraging participants and their families to travel and spend. This practice transformed event traffic into consumption growth and actively promoted the integrated development of sports, tourism and consumption.

As a major Go province, Sichuan has tens of thousands of young Go enthusiasts. In accordance with the 15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Youth Go in Sichuan Province, during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Sichuan will adhere to the principles of cultural empowerment and tournament leadership. Grounded in the inheritance of Go culture, led by tournament development, and supported by the cultivation of reserve talents, the province will comprehensively improve the competitiveness of youth Go in Sichuan. The goals include: raising the number of young people with Go grading certificates and above to over 100,000; establishing a diversified youth tournament system that is tiered, categorized, held year-round, and combines online and offline events; and achieving tangible results in the integrated development model of "Go + culture and tourism".
