China's First Salt-Cavern CAES Demonstration Project Surpasses 1,500 Days of Stable Operation! Hope Slanvert's Integrated High-Voltage VFD Solution Delivers Proven Reliability!

Against the backdrop of deepening energy transition, large-capacity, long-duration energy storage has become a core pillar in developing new-type power systems. A landmark milestone has recently been achieved in the industry: the national pilot demonstration project of salt-cavern compressed air energy storage (CAES) in Jintan, Jiangsu Province, has maintained stable grid-connected operation for more than 1,500 days.

This project is the world's first non-combustion salt-cavern CAES power station, and the only domestically operated salt-cavern CAES project that has realized long-term commercial stable operation. With a forward-planned capacity of 1,000 MW, the project offers a highly valuable practical benchmark for the large-scale, industrial implementation of compressed air energy storage in China. Benchmark Energy Storage Project Fully Supported by Hope Slanvert

Unlike conventional combustion-type CAES technologies, non-combustion compressed air energy storage eliminates fossil fuel consumption and relies on natural underground salt caverns for air storage. It boasts prominent strengths including large energy storage capacity, long operational life, low-carbon and pollution-free operation, and recyclable resource utilization, rendering it a highly promising long-duration energy storage solution. Since grid connection, the project has been fully engaged in power grid peak shaving, effectively smoothing fluctuations from wind and photovoltaic (PV) power generation, and reinforcing the secure and stable operation of the regional power grid—comprehensively validating the commercial viability of salt-cavern CAES.

Hope Slanvert has been deeply involved in this national demonstration project, providing a complete solution comprising high-voltage variable frequency drive (VFD) systems and high-voltage variable frequency soft-starters for the project's 29 MW compressors, ensuring efficient, stable, and reliable equipment operation, and supporting continuous performance across the entire storage and generation process.

Drawing on technical deployment and engineering practice outcomes accumulated in this project, the Jiangsu Jintan Salt-Cavern CAES National Pilot Demonstration Project was honored with the 【2022 Most Influential Engineering Project】 Award (presented by the Chinese Association of Automation at the 2023 China Automation Industry Annual Conference). This accolade not only recognizes the project's exemplary value across the industry but also serves as authoritative affirmation of Hope Slanvert's technological strength in high-voltage VFD equipment for long-duration energy storage applications.

Continuous Technology Iteration Empowering Industry Advancement
