Recently, a staff member from Songping Valley Scenic Area in Diexi Town, Maoxian County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, accidentally spotted and clearly captured footage of a Chinese goral (Naemorhedus griseus), a national Class II key protected wild animal, during routine ecological patrols at the Changhai Scenic Spot. This marks the first confirmed record of the species within the boundaries of Songping Valley Scenic Area.

As reported, on the day of discovery, the Chinese goral was leisurely drinking water and sunbathing by Changhai Lake. It features distinct physical characteristics: a unique white patch on its throat contrasts sharply with the black dorsal stripe, paired with a robust build, agile limbs, and sharp horns. Moving with the gentleness of a sheep and the grace of a deer, it navigates cliff faces with effortless ease, truly living up to its reputation as the "Dancer of the Cliffs".

In fact, the Chinese goral is not the only "wildlife resident" in the scenic area. Monitoring data shows that with the continuous improvement of the ecological environment, various animals such as squirrels, blue sheep, and siberian weasels have become increasingly active, with their populations showing a restorative growth trend.

In response to this encouraging change, the scenic area management office has appealed to all tourists: if you encounter these lovely wild animals during your visit, please adhere to the civilized principle of observing from a distance. Do not approach, chase, or disturb them with loud noises, and never feed them. Inappropriate interactions may cause stress-induced harm to the animals and disrupt their natural living habits.

Relevant officials of the scenic area stated that they will continue to uphold the ecological bottom line and plan to establish a closer collaborative protection mechanism with local forestry and grassland authorities.
